New Colombian Passport Features Holographic Security
In a move to redefine national security, President Gustavo Petro has unveiled the design of Colombia’s new passport. Set to enter circulation on 1 April 2026, the document is being hailed as one of the four most secure travel documents in the world.
According to media reports, the new passport introduces a series of enhanced security features to strengthen its stance on technological sovereignty. One of the most distinctive aspects of the new passport is the integration of diffractive holographic elements within the document design.
The holographic design features yellow butterflies, a symbolic reference to the literary imagery of Colombian Nobel Prize-winning author Gabriel García Márquez. The feature blends cultural symbolism with high-security technology, reflecting a broader trend in passport design that integrates national identity with advanced optical protection.
