Russia Phygital Banknote with Hologram and QR Code
The Bank of Russia introduced a redesigned 1,000 ruble banknote on 26 December 2025, featuring the Volga Federal District and Nizhny Novgorod.
Replacing the older Yaroslavl-themed design to improve security and reflect regional landmarks, the new banknote aims to strengthen counterfeit resistance and usability in automated cash systems. It will enter circulation by the end of 2026.
Printed by Goznak, the 1,000 ruble banknote features advanced security technology, particularly the holographic thread. The latest version, introduced in October 2023 and updated for 2025, features a 5.5mm wide, winged, windowed holographic security thread with demetallised ‘1000 CBRF’ text.
The note is primarily turquoise, brown, green, and purple, and includes a QR code that leads to the Bank’s website.
