Covestro Marks 10 Years of Innovation and Sustainable Materials
Covestro, a German materials science company that was spun out from Bayer in 2015, is celebrating ten years of innovation and growth with an emphasis on sustainable solutions for secure documents. Over the past decade, Covestro has established itself as a leading supplier of high-performance polymer films for passports, ID cards, and driving licenses.
At the core of its secure document portfolio are Makrofol® ID polycarbonate films and Platilon® ID thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) films, engineered for durability, optical clarity, and tamper resistance. These materials are widely used in data pages, card bodies, and hinges – critical components that demand long-term stability and laser engravability to safeguard authenticity and combat counterfeiting.
For the holographic industry, Covestro’s Bayfol® HX film enables bright security holograms with intense, pure, and resilient colours visible even in dim light. The Bayfol® HX photopolymer film also has the potential for automotive lighting over the next decade.
