A New Lens on Health: Honeywell Unveils Digital Holographic Microscopy
Honeywell has unveiled the development of a new technology, Digital Holographic Microscopy (DHM), which uses artificial intelligence (AI) to count and classify microscopic particles or cells efficiently.
This innovation holds significant potential across various industries where rapid analysis and streamlined operations are essential.
In the healthcare sector, DHM can be useful in reducing treatment delays for peritoneal dialysis patients vulnerable to abdominal lining infections. Currently, diagnosing such infections requires sending samples to specialised labs, a process that can take 1-2 days, during which the patient’s condition may worsen.
To address this issue, Honeywell’s portable DHM device – equipped with a laser, image sensor, and disposable microscope slide – captures high-resolution images of dialysis fluid at the point of care. Instead, it generates unfocused hologram images using light that passes through a sample.
