Global Momentum Builds for DOVIDs in Travel Documents
On 5 June 2025, Congo officially launched its new biometric passport. Developed in partnership with DERMALOG and led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this passport introduces a modern and secure travel document complying with the latest ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) standards.
Among its various security features are a polycarbonate data page, holograms, UV printing, watermarks and a contactless RFID chip.
As part of the rollout, the Congolese government implemented a comprehensive end-to-end passport system developed by DERMALOG. This system includes online pre-registration, biometric enrolment, and centralised passport production. A total of 100 biometric capture stations have been deployed, comprising 50 within the country and 50 at diplomatic missions, equipped with fingerprint and iris scanners, facial recognition cameras, document readers, and signature pads.
