Green Investments, Bold Innovations: Part II
In the October 2024 edition of Holography News, we reported key developments from Hueck Folien, Hazen, and others that are shaping the path toward a greener future. As more companies from Europe to Asia integrate renewable energy systems, electrify heat processes, and forge strategic alliances to align innovation with climate responsibility, this article provides updates on additional initiatives from the packaging and security printing industry.
KURZ and ENERGYNEST
In a significant step, charting its path to sustainability, LEONHARD KURZ has partnered with ENERGYNEST, a global leader in thermal storage, to implement a power-to-heat system to decarbonise one of its most energy-intensive production lines.
KURZ’s facility in Sulzbach- Rosenberg currently consumes over 4 GWhth of heat annually – heat traditionally generated by natural gas. The company’s new approach uses excess solar energy and renewable grid electricity to generate and store heat. The core of the system is a 3 MWe electrical heater paired with 12 MWhth of ThermalBattery™ capacity, enabling stable, on-demand heat delivery.
