Morphotonics Gets Series B Funding and Appoints New CEO
Morphotonics is a leader in large-area nanoimprinting, a technology that allows for the mass production of nano-lenses. The company is experiencing a growth spurt at the moment, and, as this article shows, while the techniques used by Morphotonics will be familiar to developers of optical security devices, the applications may not.
Morphotonics’ technology allows for the mass production of nano-lenses, which is critical for applications like glasses-free 3D displays, AR smart glasses, and energy- efficient mobile screens.
The company’s Roll-to-Plate (R2P) nanoimprint lithography enables the production of micro-optical structures over large surfaces and has the potential to revolutionise how light is manipulated in displays.
The technology is analogous to the micro-lens and micro- reflector structures used in optical security on banknotes, where nano- and microscopic structures are employed to create dynamic visual effects, such as colour shifts or dynamic imagery. In both cases, precise control of light at the micro or nanoscale is essential. In optical security, these structures are designed to prevent counterfeiting by producing visual features that are easy to recognise and difficult to replicate. Similarly, Morphotonics’ nanoimprinting enables high-precision light manipulation, but at a much larger scale for consumer electronics, enabling next-generation display technologies with sharper, more immersive visuals.
