Nitto Announces Strategic Investment in TruLife Optics

Global materials manufacturer Nitto Denko Corp (headquartered in Japan) has announced the acquisition of an undisclosed stake in TruLife Optics (headquartered in the UK), which specialises in the design, prototyping, mass production, and integration of holographic optical elements (HOEs) for wearable augmented reality devices.

The acquisition marks Nitto’s proactive foray into augmented reality (AR) glasses, a future growth market in the digial interface domain, a key focus of Nitto’s midterm management plan.

Nitto has purchased a minority stake in TruLife, uniting TruLife’s forefront position in holographic optics with Nitto’s mass production capabilities. The alliance aims to offer an unprecedented integrated solution for holographic optics tailored to AR smart glasses.

While Nitto is developing materials to enhance AR glasses’ performance and user comfort by leveraging its core competencies in adhesive, film, sheet technology, and optical design technology, TruLife is one of the world’s leading developers and manufacturers of wearable AR devices using HOEs. With a capacity to copy up to 1 million HOEs a year, TruLife utilises multiple holographic techniques, including bandwidth shaping, clear diffusers, and multiple gratings, for its product line.
