Holograms and QR Codes Drive Telangana’s Road Safety Push
In a recent move to enhance night-time road safety and curb accidents caused by poor visibility, the Telangana Transport Department (India) has issued a new mandate requiring all transport vehicles to be equipped with high-standard reflective rear-marking plates and tapes.
According to circular 967/R/2024, these safety markings must now feature advanced security elements, including a specialised Transport Department hologram and a unique QR code for digital verification. This mandatory system is set to take full effect on 20 February 2026, after which the verification of these digital markers will become a compulsory prerequisite for the issuance or renewal of any vehicle fitness certificate.
To ensure the integrity of the materials used, the department has authorised only five global manufacturers: Orafol India, 3M India, Glodian Reflective (Reflomax), Daoming Reflective Material, and Avery Dennison to supply and apply the certified materials. These empanelled Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) will operate through authorised dealers and applicators based at Transport Department offices.
