The International Optical Technologies Association (IOTA) patent newsletter provides crucial insights to its members. In the January 2026 edition of the patent newsletter, over 100 patents were featured, highlighting the latest advancements in the evolving field of optics, which spans security, display technologies, and scientific tools.

In 2025, more than 1,000 pieces of patent info were shared with members. The displays sector recorded the most filings, with 356. Security & Optical Effects follow with 258 patents, reflecting continued emphasis on authentication, anti-counterfeiting, and advanced optical feature integration.

Patents in security hologram (186), recording and memory (111), and microscopy (59) suggest diversified innovation alongside core security holography developments. This continued growth, marked by rising patent filings and a diverse array of applications, signals exciting developments in the field, driving new possibilities across industries from financial security to cutting-edge entertainment systems.
