IOTA to Lead OVD Workshop at Banknote Conference 2026

The International Optical Technologies Association (IOTA) will lead a specialist workshop at the Banknote Conference 2026 in Washington DC, reinforcing its role in advancing optical security technologies.

Hosted by IOTA Chairman, Dr Mark Deakes, the session titled ‘Past, Present & Future: The Evolution of Security Banknote OVDs’ will deliver a focused technical and historical perspective on optically variable devices (OVDs).

The workshop will examine the development of OVDs, covering material innovation, manufacturing advances, and micro- and nano-structuring techniques. It will also assess future directions shaping banknote security.

Scheduled for Monday 11 May 2026, the workshop forms part of the pre-conference programme organised by Currency Research. The event remains a leading global forum for currency technology, with this year’s theme centred on balancing sustainability, security, and trust in the cash cycle. The conference is expected to attract over 400 delegates, including more than 60 central banks.
