IOTA Seminar Explores What’s Next for OVDs at ODDS

At the recently held Optical & Digital Document Security™ (ODDS) conference, the International Optical Technologies Association (IOTA) reaffirmed its leading role in promoting the global optical security ecosystem.

IOTA made a strong impression by presenting its inaugural Excellence in Optical Technology Awards and participating in a tabletop exhibition that informed delegates about its new vision.

As part of its broader engagement at ODDS, IOTA also organised a specialist seminar for its members titled ‘What’s Next for Optically Variable Features’ led by its Chairman, Mark Deakes. two-hour workshop, divided into two parts, offered a comprehensive exploration of optically secure technologies that continue to play a vital role in protecting documents and products from counterfeiting and tampering.

The seminar opened with an introduction to IOTA and an outline of its objectives, setting the tone for a thought-provoking discussion. The first section, ‘Setting the Stage’, defined key terminology and examined the role and classification of Optically Variable Devices (OVDs) in secure documents. This was followed by a retrospective on 50 years of OVD innovation, tracing developments from the 1970s to the present day and highlighting the evolution towards hybrid physical – digital (physi-digital) security solutions.
