Holograms and AI Create Uncrackable Optical Encryption System
Researchers from the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser, Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas and the University of Crete, both in Greece, have developed a groundbreaking optical encryption method that they claim achieves an outstanding level of security.
As described in the journal ‘Optica’, the system uses trained neural networks to decipher elaborately scrambled information derived from holograms. It effectively decodes the complex spatial information embedded in the scrambled images.
Project leader Stelios Tzortzakis noted, ‘from rapidly evolving digital currencies to governance, healthcare, communications, and social networks, the demand for robust protection systems to combat digital fraud continues to grow’.
He added, ‘our new system achieves an exceptional level of encryption by utilising a neural network to generate a decryption key, which can only be created by the owner of the encryption system’.
