AI-Generated Holograms

AI-Generated Holograms

The emergence of AI has marked the dawn of a new chapter in human history, enabling the generation of text, images, and videos from simple text prompts without requiring prior artistic or technical skills. Recent research shows that holographic technologies can also benefit from advances in AI.

Holographic stereograms have been successfully used in various fields. They involve capturing a vast series of perspective images of 3D models and require not only technical skills but also artistic talent and often expensive professional software. The time required could take several weeks of work based on the individual artist’s workflow and efficiency. This makes holographic stereograms inaccessible to non-specialists and individuals with limited budgets.

In their 2024 research, Gentet et al. aimed in ‘From Text to Hologram: Creation of High-Quality Holographic Stereograms Using Artificial Intelligence’ to further simplify the process by generating in five minutes all the necessary perspective images from a single AI-managed prompt without the need for a 3D model. An initial image is generated, and an advanced custom-made AI-driven system employs a diffusion-based model to produce 768 high- resolution images.
