A Growing Field with Promising Potential

In Pakistan, interest in holography is gaining momentum, fuelled by advances in digital technology, expanding internet accessibility, and a growing recognition of its potential for innovation across various sectors. The article explores a few recent developments.

Brand security and packaging

While brand protection penetration is low compared to the rest of the subcontinent, holographic packaging is not new for Pakistan. Companies like Metatex (one of the IHMA members in the earlier years) originated as pioneers of vacuum metallising and have been supplying these solutions for a long time.

Regarding anticounterfeiting, companies are beginning to use holographic labels and seals to safeguard their products. One such example is Shell’s new solution for the Pakistani market. Provided by Ultracoat, based in Karachi, the new security label features include fingerprint ID, QR Code, hologram (360-degree rotation), and a scratch code to ensure product authentication for its lubricant products.
