Idvac Unveils New Gold Colour Metallised Process

Idvac Ltd, based in Manchester, UK, has introduced an innovative method for creating bespoke gold colour metallised films, completely free from pigments, inks, or dyes.

This advance caters to the high security market, particularly targeting solventand water-sensitive film substrates. The intended applications include gold colour holographic threads patches for banknotes, passports, ID cards, and labels.

The colour gold holds a prestigious status in both decorative packaging and security applications, symbolising opulence and wealth. Traditionally, achieving this coveted hue on vacuum metallised films required the use of solvent- or water-based chemicals. However, Idvac’s innovative approach eliminates the need for these conventional methods.

The process begins with vacuum metallising a specially developed single optical coating onto flexible films, followed by standard aluminium metallising for hot stamping applications. Conducted inside a standard roll-to-roll vacuum web metalliser, the bespoke gold colour can also be applied atop existing metallised flexible films using Idvac’s specially developed optical coating.
