Maria Callas
In a recent spectacle in front of a curious Melbourne audience, the long- departed soprano Maria Callas graced the stage once again, singing alongside the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in a holographic performance. The ambiance was set with mood lighting and the anticipation of her virtual presence palpable as the musicians tuned their instruments in the shadows.
As Callas made her entrance, ripples of laughter spread across the audience as she engaged in a manufactured exchange with live conductor Daniel Schlosberg. The repertoire of Callas’ hits, from Bellini’s ‘Casta Diva’ to Bizet’s ‘L’amour est un oiseau rebelle’, stirred emotions.
