Unveiling the Future of Optical Document Security: ODDS 2024

The Optical & Digital Document Security™ Conference (ODDS) 2024, set to take place in Lisbon, Portugal 8-10 April, promises an in depth look into the latest advancements in optical and digital document security.

For nearly three decades, ODDS has been at the forefront of addressing the intricate challenges posed by document security using optical and digital technologies. This year’s event, organised by Reconnaissance, builds on the rich heritage of conferences in the field held since 1996.

Among the highlights are the technical papers that will shed light on ground- breaking developments in optical document security.

One such paper, titled ‘Development of Novel Overt Security Features for ID Documents,’ presents a new optically variable device (OVD) designed to thwart counterfeiting and tampering of identity documents like passports and driving licences. Presented by Keitaro Sugihara of TOPPAN Digital Inc, this paper will showcase an OVD with enhanced authentication functions, ensuring quick and straightforward verification.

Another compelling presentation comes from Hueck Folien, where Dr Martin Egginger and his team will unveil their latest research on high-security features. With a focus on innovative optical technologies, Egginger’s paper delves into the evolution of OVDs, from holography to structured colour technology. By reviewing historical developments and projecting future applications, this paper offers invaluable insights into the ever-evolving landscape of optical security.

Additionally, Wuhan Huagong Image Technology & Development Co Ltd will present a paper on ‘Special Information Encryption for Optical Lithography Technology.’ The research explores advanced encryption techniques to combat counterfeiting in optical applications. By simulating optical microstructures and employing high-precision direct writing lithography, the results achieve clear laser motion effects, enhancing product customisation capabilities.

These technical papers represent a small sample of the cutting-edge optical document security papers that will be presented, offering innovative solutions to combat fraud and ensure the integrity of sensitive documents. From advanced OVDs to specialised encryption technologies, the research presented at ODDS 2024 promises to shape the future of document security.

By attending ODDS 2024, professionals involved in designing, producing, or examining security documents will gain access to ground-breaking research, engage with industry experts, and forge connections with peers at the forefront of optical document security.
