Vintage Lasers and Holograms

From 1 May to 30 June, visitors to the ‘Vintage Lasers and Holograms’ exhibition in Tempe, Arizona will have the opportunity to delve into the evolution of lasers, and the role they played in the academic and commercial evolution of holography.

The exhibition is curated from Bob Hess’s collection of more than 500 lasers and more than 600 holograms.

Lasers have become essential to many parts of modern technology since their invention over 60 years ago and are an important component of the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) careers of the future. Although it was technically feasible to record and view holograms with mercury arc lamps, it was the invention of the laser that accelerated the path of the technology from the laboratory into the high-street.
