Miirage on the Horizon

Miirage on the Horizon

Miirage is a new holographic system that brings people, objects and scenes to ‘life’ without the need for external wearables.

The technology is a modular system that utilises transparent LCDs to create realistic 3D images that don’t require glasses, a mobile device or any other sort of screen to convince the viewer that they are seeing something real and solid. When looking at the system, to the naked eye it seems as though a person, character or object is moving around in 3D space, with the added bonus that the viewer can see this illusion in any brightness and from almost any angle.

According to the company’s promotional material, Miirage began in a creative meeting with a global client. They were interested in a previous hologram project which toured shopping malls in Australia. The client had access to celebrities and wanted to tour the country showcasing performers as holograms. Since they had an existing partnership with a national shopping mall chain, they planned to host these events in the malls. They wanted the hologram to be large enough for an audience to experience and enjoy, while at the same time providing an environment for a singer or band to perform in.
