Queen Misses Her Own Party – But Sends a Hologram
For royalists and fans of pageantry around the globe, the Golden Jubilee celebrations for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II promised the perfect occasion for pomp, circumstance and (surprisingly) – holography.
Queen Elizabeth II, who, this year, has been on the throne of the UK and other Commonwealth countries for 70 years, recently marked the anniversary of her accession to the throne in a series of celebrations. The highpoint should have been a Platinum Jubilee Pageant parade, with the original Gold State Coach following the same route taken to her coronation in 1953. Unfortunately, Her Majesty, who is 96 years’ old and had suffered some discomfort during previous Jubilee engagements, was not able to attend the parade.
So, whilst she was not able to attend in person, a heightened reality projection (dubbed by the media as a ‘hologram’) taken from the original footage of the young Queen at her coronation was projected onto a window of the Gold State Coach to give the illusion of the Queen-to-be, waving to the public, on her way from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey.
