Back in our November 2025 editorial for Holography & Optical Technology News™, we said that collaboration was becoming a smarter strategic pathway than aggressive acquisitions, which appeared to have reached a natural peak. This shift encouraged more agile partnership models, offering companies a faster route to innovation in the rapidly evolving anticounterfeiting landscape.

But early 2026 has shown things are more complex. Rather than committing to a single strategy, the industry is pursuing a hybrid approach. Companies are forming partnerships while simultaneously advancing towards greater technological ownership.

Track One: Strategic expansion through acquisition

For example, Hueck Folien’s recent purchase of Wavefront Technologies shows that technological independence remains a core priority.

By integrating Wavefront’s three decades of microstructure expertise, Hueck moves closer to full-spectrum capability.
