Optical Document Security: 4th Edition on its Way

‘Optical Document Security’, the book by Rudolf (Ruud) van Renesse, is recognised as the most authoritative guide to the science, techniques and use of optical security features on security documents.

The first edition, published in 1995, was quickly followed by a second edition in 1998 – both of which were conceived and edited by Ruud – leading to him writing the third edition, published in 2005. This rapid flow of editions showed the value of the book to the optical security community.

Since 2005 the field has not stood still; there have been many developments and innovations since, including – just as an example – the 2007 launch of the iPhone, the first full smartphone.

Smartphones have become an important part of the optical security ecosystem, but there is of course no mention of them in the 2005 book.
